Local cuisine reflects the people, art and culture of a city. This is clearly the foundation for the popularity and success of each of Puesto’s six Southern California locations (and likely growing).

First-generation Mexican Americans whose childhoods were immersed in authentic Mexican cooking, Puesto’s owners have created a vibrant destination dining experience defined by its innovative take on traditional Mexican cuisine, a modern and inviting ambiance and high energy atmosphere.

Nestled in the heart of Anaheim on the grounds of The Westin Anaheim Resort (across from Disneyland), Puesto’s design showcases fine craftsmanship of walnut, brass, steel and elegant lighting. Designed by Basile Studios, the lighting is itself art – from the entry lights to the liquor shelving and suspended agave sculpture.

But where this eatery really shines is in the menu – from the trio of classic and inventive guacamole to its award-winning tacos.

For the former, think pomegranate, mango pico de gallo, chile de arbol and candied walnuts or classic guacamole accentuated with Parmigiano-Reggiano.

The tacos start with the housemade blue corn tortillas which provide the perfect foundation for the delicious fillings. I might even go so far as to claim that each taco is a masterpiece of culinary craftsmanship, featuring the perfect balance of seasonal ingredients.

Our favorites? The Baja fish (Puesto beer-battered fish, shredded cabbage, classic guacamole, Crema and morita salsa) and the Tamarindo Shrimp (think crispy Mexican shrimp and Tamarindo chile sauce). You can’t go wrong with any of the choices – other popular picks include the filet mignon taco with crispy melted cheese, marinated filet mignon, avocado and spicy pistachio serrano salsa.

Also worth writing home about were the immensely flavorful short rib enchilada plates which combines chile braised short rib with guajillo pepper, Oaxacan style cheese, Mexican crema and avocado.

Beer aficionado? The specialty cervezas here are brewed in Puesto’s own Mission Valley Cerveceria by Master Brewer Doug Hasker. More of a margarita fan? You’ll have your work cut out for you in deciding between the signature Puesto Perfect (Pueblo Viejo reposado tequila, fresh lime and organic agave nectar), the spicy Serrano Margarita or the traditional Cadillac. Or sample one of the cucumber, guava, watermelon or coconut options.

Regardless of where the menu takes you, Puesto is definitely redefining the taco experience with its innovative approach to Mexican cuisine.
