Anaheim Ducks “Learn To Play Program’’

Getting yourself or your child involved in sports is one of the best things you can do. It builds confidence and boosts happiness and health. One of the most popular and fun (not to mention amazing) of these sports is hockey. The Anaheim Ducks has affiliated with both adult and child learn-to-play-hockey programs, and are pleased to spread the word so you can also get involved. “This program continues to expand each year. Annually over 700 youth participants experience hockey for the first time through this program,” says Jesse Chatfield, Marketing Manager of The Rinks. “We found that one of the main hurdles to new participants trying hockey was the upfront costs associated with the gear. We provide all the gear and allow participants to try hockey for 4 weeks for FREE. We focus on learning on how to skate properly and the basics of hockey; passing, shooting and stick handling. The success of the youth program is what helped develop the Adult Learn to Play program for both ice and roller hockey. A number of parents wanted to experience the sport after watching their children have fun and progress. The model is the same and we have seen a number of adults continue on into the Beginner Hockey Leagues.”

With a family-friendly schedule, both adults and children can find the perfect time to learn to skate properly and play hockey. “The greatest thing about this program is that it doesn’t matter what your experience is or where your skill level is. All that’s required is a good attitude and a willingness to try!” Jesse says. “If your child is under ten, we have everything you need, including an equipment bag, helmet, shin guards, hockey pants, elbow pads, shoulder pads, gloves and a jersey to use for the entire four week session. We also have limited loaner equipment for adults. It’s important for all players to truly experience what it’s like to play hockey. Proper gear is an important part of that, especially for safety purposes.”

Get involved and try something new today. Learning to play hockey provides the perfect opportunity to make new friends and have fun. While everyone else is running on shoes, you can tell war stories on how you skated on a blade on frozen ice. This is your chance to do it with the pros and those who know- for free!

The Anaheim Ducks Learn to Play Program is offered at the following Rinks locations: Lakewood ICE, Westminster ICE, Yorba Linda ICE, Corona Inline, Huntington Beach Inline and Irvine Inline.
